ConnectED Bus

The trend of providing wi-fi on transit and travel buses has only increased since COVID-19. Wi-fi enabled buses gives riders extra work time on the bus during daily commutes. When schools shut down, the buses were idle.

Buses have now been called into action to provide wi-fi internet access around the bus, rather than on the bus. Buses can be parked in neighborhoods or parking lots and provide wi-fi internet access when otherwise not in use. Citizens can maintain social distancing while the bus casts wide area wi-fi access.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics "Evidence from Spring 2020 school closures points to negative impacts on learning. Children and adolescents also have been placed at higher risk of morbidity and mortality from physical or sexual abuse, substance abuse, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation.”

Throughout the Summer, the AAP strongly advocated that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school. These coordinated interventions intend to mitigate, not eliminate, risk.

So in addition to the fundamental need of a new digital curriculum, schools were now tasked with mandating face masks, temperature checks, and social distancing to protect students from COVID-19.
